Artist's story
Some months ago I purchased a few Amethyst and Ametrine crystals from Bolivia (well more than a few, sometimes I can’t control myself when it’s about nice crystals, but the particularity in this purchase was that I had no idea what we would use them for and on top of that, I bought them by seeing photos only! I think it is very important to select every stone in person, examine and connect with it (and the miner), and then make a decision. But we are going through tough times for traveling and hence we have to take some risks, fortunately, this worked out quite well.
You may think that’s a bit crazy but in the gem carving World, we have to do this more often than you could imagine.
Remember it is Mother Nature who offers these gifts to us; it’s not like going to the supermarket every time we need a certain gem (although that will be amazing). So I guess with time (experience) you realize which crystal or a gem will be great to create a good design even if you don’t have a clear idea at the moment of purchase.
I loved creating this sculpture, “Python”, the crystal is just incredible since its colors and surface texture allow you to define specific areas.
We decided to carve the python out of the strong purple at the top of the crystal and kept all the white just as it came out of the mine, untouched so the external crystallization depicts a small rock formation on which the python rests.
Python carved from a single crystal of bi-colour amethyst with bronze mounted by gold vermeil.
